Artists Statement Project 1

Writer: Jameson LoewenJameson Loewen

In my project I attempt to communicate the irony of online contracts and how meaningless we consider them to be. In my zine, color and light represent the digital world, oftentimes damping the full spectrum of reality, turning the physical into black and white. Although I used (an altered version of) Apple’s Terms and Conditions as the main bodies of text in my project, I used separate phone models for each relevant panel, extending ideas of universal ignorance. To accomplish the project itself I began with base images of my hand, drawn in Procreate, adding several images of cut-out phones, and filling them with other original sources. Using Procreate was one of the most difficult aspects of the project, it took a while to get used to, and the end products from the program are a little unrefined. But by far the hardest part was assembling the final product. A normal single-paged zine is eight pages, but I needed ten. I did figure out a way to make it work, but it needed to be printed on tabloid sized paper (11x17), which was an entirely different issue.
